The flight deck is a serious place of business (obviously) on an aircraft carrier, and it is not too often that we the men on board have the opportunity of just skylarking about for a while (albeit to placate the God of the Sea Neptune. Crossing the Line is one of those traditions that has been carried on throughout the years and even now is a tradition that will not be allowed to fade away (except in times of emergency I guess).
