Finally in September of 2006 we arrived in Marmaris, Turkey. This bay and Marmaris Yacht Marin marina had been recommended by several friends as being the most cost effective berthing in Turkey.
We were very pleasantly surprised. Marmaris Yacht Marin, is an enormous marina with masses of space for ships and yachts both in and out of the water. The restaurant is by far the most exquisite we have ever seen whilst sailing, it is like walking into the Hilton Hotel, wonderful dinning room and excellent food at very reasonable prices.
Once again we were to winter here with many of the friends we had met over the previous two years and, in fact, we had a really great time in Yacht Marin. The marina staff were most efficient and very friendly.
Marmaris itself was a Dolmus (small van type bus) away (about 20 minutes) and is a lovely town. Here it was possible to have anything made (again most reasonable prices).
Istanbul is an amazing city spread over two continents (Europe and Asia). A great many miles from Marmaris we took the bus overnight on the way up and had a long day trip on the way back to Marmaris. The Blue Mosque, the Whirling Dervishes were probably the main highlight of our stay.
